It’s the Fortnum’s Christmas Spectacular!

The lights, the glitter, the dressing up, the elaborate preparations, the sense of anticipation as the main event draws near… So when Fortnum’s went searching for inspiration for their Christmas windows, a theme of ‘Showtime!’ seemed an obvious candidate.

Christmas brings out the impresario in all of us.

Fortnum’s is a theatre and every day they put on a show. This Christmas the aim is to exaggerate and emphasise this with tender quirky detail, humour and irony. Playing on tradition and the seasonal form of entertainment: Pantomime, but mixed with a little dusting of Burlesque magic.

Red October

The month October has become famous as ‘Red October’, due to the Bolshevik Revolution which started on 25 October 1917. Russia was in turmoil with major issues affecting social, economic, and political relations. Russia’s national debt had risen to 50 billion rubles and there were no IMF bail-outs on offer.
